Water is an essential part of our lives. Hence, its use should be managed properly. Water management is the planned activity of developing, effective distributing and limiting the amount of water utilized for all activities.
Water conservation is another aspect related to water. It means using water wisely and saving it for our future generation. In the present environmental situation, water conservation has become highly important because:
- No organism can survive without water for a single day.
- We do not have endless supply of water on earth. Though 3/4th of our earth is water but among that 97% is salt water and only 3% is fresh water and 1% is drinkable as remaining 2% is locked as snow. So all organisms whether plants or animals depend upon that 1% of drinkable water.
- By conserving water we can save our environment. It decreases water pollution.
- Conservation of water also helps to conserve water animals and wild lives that depend upon water.
- Water conservation is necessary for our daily household practices like cleaning, washing, bathing etc.
- Water is necessary for industries and agriculture.
- Wise use of water also helps to save money by reducing demand of water treatment and recycling.
To take part in this noble cause of saving water we need to follow some simple steps:
- Do not waste water and save however possible.
- Turn off the tap while brushing teeth, soaping or shampooing.
- Take care of the pipes whether there are any leakages.
- Take a short shower.
- Water the garden only in early morning to avoid evaporation.
- Grow plants as much as possible to retain the moisture of the soil.
