I was reading about Benedict's test in which Cu2+ ions (having 2 less e- i.e having a charge of +2) were converted to Cu+ (now only having 1 less e-). This means that that the Cu has lost one electron from its system. Now going back to the definition, Loss of electrons is Oxidation and gain of electrons is reduction. Clearly, Cu here has lost one electron, but our meritnation teacher said that the Cu has been reduced by the sugar. I checked on internet, indeed everywhere it was written that Cu has been reduced. But according to me, it has been oxidized, dont you think?
