If (1+2i)(2+3i)(3+4i)=a+ib, find the value of a2+b2

Expand the three brackets and you will simply get minus 40 + 5 iota is equal to a + iota b
now a =-40 and b=5.
a^2 + b^2 =1600+25
=1625

Given ==> (1 + 2i ) ( 2 + 3i ) ( 3 + 4i ) = a + ib
get off the bracket , and you get it like  - 40 + 5i 
equating the LHS and RHS now you get 
a = -40
b= 5
to find a2 + b2 
( -40 )2 + ( 5 )2
you get 1600 + 25 = 1625
which is what u had to find..:)
