if a satellite of mass 400 kg revolves around the earth in an orbit with speed 200m/s then its potential energy is

PE= -2KE
     = -2x1/2xm*v^2
given ,
mass is 400kg, v=200m/s
on substituting we get PE=-400x200x200
                                          =-16x10^6 J=-16 megajoules=-16MJ

The forumla of potential energy is P.E = mgh where m is the mass in kilogram, g is the acceleration due to gravtiy which is 9.8 m/s at the surface of earth So P.E = mgh = 400x10x200 = 800000m/s is the potential energy

M=400kg V=200m/s PE=-2 KE =-2*1/2*m*v^2 =-400*200*200 = -16*10^6 = -16 MJ

For a satellite,
P.E. = -GMm/R
m= mass of the satellite
R= radius of the orbit
K.E. = 1/2 mv= GMm/2R = - P.E./2
therefore, P.E. = mv
=-400 x 4 x 10
= -16 MJ
