If nitrogen is present in large amount then why we only inhale oxygen and carbon dioxide

Hai!!

It is quite true that when we inhale air, it is not primarily oxygen that gets into our body, but other gases too like nitrogen, it being abundant in the atmosphere. But our body's metabolism is so designed that it accepts only the oxygen molecules. This is due to the MECHANISM OF BIOMOLECULES according to which the body has molecules of various proteins, carbohydrates, etc. Similarly , it has a specefic receptor molecule for just responding to oxygen in the body-the HEAMOGLOBIN!!

It is because of this selective receptiveness exhibited by the body that we talk of just inhaling oxygen. In reality, all gases in the atmosphere enter our lungs. But, it is only oxygen that is accepted by the body

When we exhale, ALL GASES LIKE NITROGEN AND CARBONDIOXIDE are expelled!!

Cheers!!

Hope you understand =)

We are all of us (humans, animals and plants) nitrogen-dependent because every protein has nitrogen as one of the constituting elements.
Humans get their nitrogen for making proteins from vegetable and/or animal sources.? Even plants (and bacteria) that can fix nitrogen do not use nitrogen from the air in a direct way for building proteins, but in the form of ammonia or in the form of nitrates.

Why oxygen :? oxygen can react with carbohydrates by an exothermic reaction, thus delivering energy.? I do not know of similar reaction of nitrogen with possible food components
