The story in "We're Not Afraid to Die...if We Can All Be Together" the reader is surprised to find that the most courageous of the family of four are Jonathan and Suzanne, the children. When their father had given up hope, it was the children's optimism that helped their father continue his fight against the raging sea. The daughter in spite of a major injury continued to support her father. It was the children who tell their father that they are not afraid to die, only if they can die together. This renews the strength of the author and his wife Mary. When the storm subsides they find that they are close to Ille Amsterdam and that help is near. It was the optimism of the children that helped the author and his wife fight against all odds and win.
