if someone we are speaking about is dead do we say 'his name is xyz' or 'his name was xyz' ?
Dear student
Whilst speaking of the dead, we use the tense form 'was' because the person has ceased to exist.
For example: Here lies a gentle soul, he was a beloved brother and son.
