If the investigator wants to select a sample on the basis of characteristics of the population , which method should be used ?

In the given situation stratified sampling should be used. Under this type of sampling the entire population is divided into small groups of homogenous items. A sample is then drawn at random from each strata. Different samples from different strata are then grouped together to get the required sample for the population.
