Valves helps to prevent the backflow of blood, that is, it prevents the backflow of de-oxygenated blood from ventricles to auricles. It helps in unidirectional flow of blood. If these valves do not work, pure and impure blood will mix altogether.

Valves allow blood to flow in A SINGLE DIRECTION. So blood which goes once cannot come backs and prevents damage and blockage.
