If we drop sodium in water it burns why its so. If its burns then why it blast and spread everywhere why?
Dear student,
When we drop the Sodium in water the hydrogen gas is evolved in the reaction which is combustible gas.
This reaction is exothermic therefore evolved hydrogen gas catches the fire. This reaction can be written as,
Na (s) +H2O (liq.) → NaOH (aq) + H2 (g) +heat
When water reacts with the metal ion the metal rapidly release electrons. And the negatively charged electrons generate heat as soon as they leave the metal.
Regards!!!
