If we put a plant in blue water the stem will become Blue, why not the leaves not get Blue?

Dear student,

Water moves through the plant by means of capillary action. Capillary action occurs when the forces binding a liquid together (cohesion and surface tension) and the forces attracting that bound liquid to another surface (adhesion) are greater than the force of gravity.

When we place a cut stem in blue water , it starts rising due to capillary action. The xylem is involved in water transport in plants.

The stem turns blue, moreover the veins of the leaves also turn blue due to the same reason. This shows that water moves up from the cut part of the stem upto the veins of the leaves.
