x4-17x2+16=0⇒x4-16x2-x2+16=0⇒x2x2-16-1x2-16=0⇒x2-1x2-16=0⇒x2-1=0 or x2-16=0⇒x2=1 or x2=16⇒x=±1 or x=±4So, sum of the squares of roots of x4-17x2+16=0 is12+-12+42+-42=1+1+16+16=34
