If you were to given a different ending to the story On the Face of it how would you end it

An alternate ending to 'On the Face of it' could be that Derry went back to help Mr Lamb in picking the apples, after which he assisted him in making jams and jellies with the picked fruit. The story fast forwards ten years and Derry is seen as the owner of a big Jam &Jelly business and Mr Lamb's photograph is shown hanging in his office. Derry continues the legacy of Mr Lamb by employing the disabled in his factory.
