If z is a purely imaginary number and lies on the positive direction of Y axis then what is the argument of z?
Experts please dont give links and answer with detailed steps

Dear Student,

z is purely imaginary number hence the real part of z is zerohence z=x+iy where x=0now the argument of z =argz=tan-1yxargz=tan-1yxtan-1y0also y is always postive hence =tan-1=π2Hence argz =π2

if z is a purely imaginary numbe and lies of positive direction of y-axis then the real part of z is zero. hence the complex number will make an angle of 90degree with positive x-axis.
=> arg(z)=90
