Dear student, It is Rutherford's experiment. Observation: Most alpha particles were undeflected and passedstraight through the gold foil. Some were deflected through small angles. A very small number were turned back through angles greater than 90 degrre. Prediction from the observation: The atom is mostly empty space, but there is a solid centre, which has a positive charge.
