the wick is made up of a material that can absorb liquids such as molten wax and water. when we bring a burning matchstick close to the wick of a candle or touch it, then the wax in the upper part of the candle melts and rises up the wick. the molten wax then vaporises by taking heat from the wick. these wax vapours burn n the air as son as they vapourise.
