let the number of boys be x the number of girls will be x/6 total number of student=x+x/6 according to question: $x + \frac{x}{6} = 49 \frac{6 x + x}{6} = 49 \frac{7 x}{6} = 49 x = 49 \times \frac{6}{7} = 42$ therefore the number of boys=42 and the number of girls= $\frac{42}{6} = 7$
