In a hostel, 100 students had provisions for 130 day. after 10 days 20 students left the hostel. how long would the remaining food last?

Let the stock be "x"

100 Students eat "x" stock in 130 days

so in 10 days they consume (10/130) of x or x/13 and remaining is 12x/13

100 Students eat "x" stock in 130 days

80 students eat 12x/13 stock in ? days

If students decrease days increase(indirect proportion) and if stock decreases days decrease(direct proportion

so no. of days = (100*12*x*130)/ (80*13*x) = 150 days after 10 days.

Initial no. of students = 100, Initial provison for 130 days

After 10 days remaining provison would last for 130-10 =120 days for 100 students

But No of students remain is = 100-20 =80

Let reemaining provison will last for X days for remaining students

This can be represented in following way

No of students 100 80

No of days--------120 X

As no of days wil decrease if no. of student increase this is inverse variation

Therefore 100 * 120 = 80*X

or X = 12000/80 = 150 days

Therefore remaining provison will last for 150 days (Answer)
