in a magnet, who is it that like poles repel and unlike poles attract???

This is because the magnets produce something called magnetic field. When you put two magnets close to each other, their magnetic field interact and causes them to exert a force on each other.

Unlike poles of two magnets attract each other, but like poles repel each other when brought close to each other. The magnetic lines originate from the North pole of a magnet and end at its South pole. The direction of a magnetic force at any point gives the general direction of the magnetic force on a North pole that is placed at that point.
