In a pea plant, the trait of flowers bearing purple colour (PP) is dominant over white colour (pp). Explain the inheritance pattern of F1 and F2 generations with the help of a cross following the rules of inheritance of traits. State the Phenotypic and genotypic ratio of F2 progeny.

Dear Student,

Purple trait is represented by PP and white is by pp. The cross will the monohybrid cross as a single character is studied by the trait.
Parental generation-     PP   ×    pp
Gametes will be P and p. In F1 generation we will get Pp.
On selfing,
Gametes P p
P PP Pp
p Pp pp
So, here we see in F1 general we have purple colour flowers whereas in F2 we have 3 purple and 1 white coloured flower.
