in a solid 'AB' having Nacl structure, A atoms occupy corners of cubic unit cell. if the face centered atoms along one of axis are removed then resultant stoichometry of solid is?

According to NaCl structure, A atoms will occupy all the corners and face centres whereas B atoms will occupy all the octahedral voids.
Total number of A atoms in NaCl structure = 4
Number of B atoms in NaCl structure = 4
Contribution from atoms at corner = 1/8 x 8 =1
If atoms along one axis are removed, 4 atoms will remain at the face centres.
Contribution from atoms at face centres = ½ x 4 = 2
Total number of A atoms = 1+ 2 = 3
Total number of B atoms = 4
Therefore, formula of the compound is A3B4
