Total no. of students failed = 40% + 30% + 10%

                                                 = 80%

Therefore total no. of students passed in both the subject = 100% - 80%

                                                                                                         = 20%

Total percentage of students who failed in both subjects=10

Percentage of students who passed both subjects=100-10=90

(1) % of students failed only in Maths= 40-10=30

(2) % of students failed only in English= 30-10=20

(3) % of students failed in both=10%

(4) % of students failed in any one or both=30+20+10=60%  .....  (1) + (2) + (3)

(5) % of students passed in both=100-60=40%  ....  100 - (4)

Subtract 100-10 =90%passed in both examination
