IN AN EXAMINATION 56% OF THE CANDIDATES FAILED IN ENGLISH AND 48% FAILED IN SCIENCE .IF 18% FAILED IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SCINCE ,FIND THE PERCENTAGE OF THOSE WHO PASSED IN BOTH THE SUBJECTS
English = 56% failed
Science= 48% failed
18% failed in both.
Now, what’s 56%+48%=? It's 104% but 104% is never true since we know that the total number of students are taken as 100% hence the number of students failed is being repeated , in other words, some students failed in both.
So we subtract 18 from 56% and 48% and we get= 56%-18%=48% and 48%-18%=30%
So percentage of students failed in English are 48% and that in science are 30%
So, total percentage of students failed in both subjects are 48%+30%=78%
Total percentage of students are 100 and PERCENTAGE OF THOSE WHO PASSED IN BOTH THE SUBJECTS are 100%-78%=22%
