in cell membrane what acts as receptors
protein or oligosaccharides please explain

The integral membrane proteins are the cell surface receptors or the membrane receptors that helps in interaction between the cell and outside the cell. The receptor helps in cascade of events that involves relay of signals or signalling between the internal cell environment and the outer cell environment. There are two types of proteins found in cell membrane- Integral membrane protein (permanently attached to the membrane) and peripheral membrane protein (temporary attached to the cell).
Oligosaccharides also acts as cell surface recognition molecules that helps in attachment of bacteria, viruses, signalling molecules etc.
