In Daniel cell , how does the zinc electrode start loosing electrons when there is no external force acting on the cell? means without a battery how could the zinc rod loose electrons,as soon as it is dipped in the solution?
Please help if u can .Thank U.

Dear Student,

Here the driving force is the redox reaction. As soon as Zn rod is dipped in ZnSO4 solution, oxidation of Zn occurs to form Zn2+ ions . This takes place in the anodic compartment. Now these electrons flow from the anode to cathode via a copper wire. These electrons are gained by the Cu2+ ions in the cathodic compartment which forms Cu. This flow of ions from one half cell to the other half cell completes the electrical circuit which ensures continuous supply of current.
