In how many climatic regions South America is divided ?

Dear Student,

South America is divided into four major climatic zones. They are

1. Tropical zone. This is in the region near the equator. This zone is characterised by high temperature and heavy rainfall thoroughout the year.

2. Temperate zone: This zone lies to the south of the tropical zone. This zone is characterised by warm summers and cool to cold winters. Rainfall is moderate.

3. Dry/Desert zone: Most of the western part of South America has a dry climate with very little rainfall. For example, the Atacama desert in Chile is in this zone.

4. Polar zone: The extreme south of South America is in the polar zone. It is characterized by very low temperature for most of the year.
