in imbibition, water is adsorbed by hydrophilic substances like pectin n cellulose in root hairs. so .. i mean its different from diffusion ryt? in diffusion water moves inside the cell.. so in imbibition , does the water accumulate in intrcellular spaces? if not plz correct me.

Imbibition is a special type of diffusion in which water is absorbed by solids (colloids) causing them to enormously increase in volume. The example of imbibition is the absorption of water by seeds and dry wood.
