Following are the three reasons which explains why lungs replace skin as a respiratory organ:-
1) The surface area provided by alveoli of lungs is greater than the surface area of skin.
2) Membranous wall of alveoli is richly covered by blood capillaries than the skin.
3) Endothelium of blood capillaries and membranous wall of alveoli allow for exchange of gases but skin does not allow.
