In NCERT it is written that all birds and mammals are regulators but they used humming bird to explain why regulation is energetically expensive compared to conformation.Hence is humming bird a reguator, conformer or partial regulator? Further does a humming bird undergo hibernation at night?

  • A humming bird is a regulator itself.
  • The sentence just means to say that the process of thermoregulation is energetically expensive for the humming bird but does not say that due to that expense it does not thermoregulate.
  • It does not hibernate but in cool weather it undergoes an overnight metabolic change called 'Torpor'
Hope this helps :)

Ya it is exception to regulators since it has very small body size, it neeeds more energy to regulate so they're simply conformers
