In reported speech today changes into that day but in the comic at the beggining it is given today instead of that day????Am I correct or wrong?????

Please note that when direct reported speech is changed into indirect reported speech, then 'today' changes to 'that day' and 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day'/ 'the following day'. Thank you.
