in the alpha helix structure , when the bonding takes place does the carbonyl behve like aldehyde and amide as amine ???

Dear student,
In alpha helix structure, the intrastrand hydrogen bonding occurs between the N-H group present at the backbone to the C=O group of the amino acids located three or four residues before the protein sequence. This hydrogen bonding does not lead to the formation of aldehyde from carbonyl group and amine from amide. It just helps in the coiling of the strand and provide stability to the helical structure.
