In the led bulb why is the longer wire connected to the positive terminal and not to the negative terminal?

In LED, the side of longer wire is called as anode and it should be always connected to positive side of the battery.
Similarly, the side of shorter wire is called as cathode and it should be always connected to negative side of the battery.

If you connect the LED in reverse fashion when compared to the above arrangement, then LED won't glow.
