In the poem:a doctors journal entry for august 6,1945....what does the line"I turned my gaze,but was at loss" means pls answer it as early as possible........

'i turned my gaze but was at a loss means' he(the narrator)turned his eyes away from them (the lady and the child who were standing naked)but was not able to understand how she could stand that way.
this scene is after the doctor sends his wife to the hospital nd he sees a lady with a child standing naked in his path.he thinks they had come out from a bath . thus he turns his eyes away.

here d narrator has turned his eyes form d naked woman n child thinking dat how they cn be naked infrnt of him nd how can they stand like dat soo hee turned ignoring them but was shocked as he saw a man naked infront of him and thn he thought dat smethng fearfull has happnd which has caused their cloth to torn
