In the poem "The Last Bargain" why did the man turn down the offers made by the king, the old man and the fair lady?

Dear student,
The narrator calls out to people to hire him as he walks down a road. The King, riding in his chariot, offers to hire him with his power. But, the narrator finds this a worthless agreement. The narrator continues to roam around the winding roads even when the doors of houses are closed in the blistering heat of noon. An old, rich man comes out of his house, thinks and offers to give him a job against his bag of gold. He carefully counts his coins, but this bargain too does not appeal to the narrator. He turns down the offers because he knows that the worth of freedom is more than power, money or beauty.
