in the study of Geiger and marsden experiment on scattering of alpha particles by a thin foil of gold draw the trajectory of alpha particles in the coulomb field of target nucleus. Explain briefly how one gets the information on the size of the nucleus from this study. from the relation R= R0A1/3 where Ris constant and A is the mass number of the nucleus, show that nuclear matter density is independent of A

Dear Student ,
Here is the solution of the question is given below :

We have the expression for nuclear radius as:

R0A1/3

Where,

R0 = Constant.

A = Mass number of the nucleus

Nuclear matter density,

Let m be the average mass of the nucleus.

Hence, mass of the nucleus = mA

Hence, the nuclear matter density is independent of A. It is nearly constant.
