in what situation would be more appropriate to use a string along a ruler to make length measurements ? explain how such a measurement would be made ?

We use string along with ruler to measure curved things. We take string or thread and we rap the curve thinng accordingly and then we measure thread that is been used to rap it and than we takeout the measure that curved thing.
