In what ways are present day elections different from the ways in which rulers were chosen in janapadas

Dear Student

1)  The word ‘janapadas’ means people who have settled in lands firstly and those who performed big sacrifices like ashwamedha yaga were chosen as rulers among them
2)  The raja of the janapadas who organized the sacrifice was recognized as powerful and they protected people by waging battles etc
3)   In the present day, people select their representatives from different political parties contesting in elections. Each one of them is given a chance to vote and those who deserve get the chance of ruling the government.
4)  Thus, the present day elections are conducted in democratic way while the rulers chosen in janapadas were chosen pertaining to their capability of conducting big yagnas or sacrifices.
