In which season Sugarcane is grown? In Geography NCERT it is mentioned under the zaid season topic "Sugarcane takes almost an year to grow". Please explain this as this crop takes an year to grow so in which season is it grown?

Sugarcane is an annual crop grown in zaid season. Sugarcane has extraordinary capacity for growth. It is the major source of sugar production. It grows well in  fertile and well drained soil. India is second largest producer of sugar cane. It is a tropical and subtropical crop. It grows in hot and humid climate. It requires a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius. It takes almost a year to grow sugarcane. It grows best in well drained soil. but it also grows in sandy and loamy soil. It has five growth phases- germination phase, tillering (formative) phase, grand growth phase and maturity and ripening phase. Sugarcane is produced in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana.
