In “Indian Civilization and Culture” Gandhi ji talks about ancient Indian civilization that elevates moral being. The writer is of the opinion that nothing can equal the seeds sown by our ancestors. Other civilizations lost their glory but the splendor of Indian civilization and culture is still immovable.

Civilization is the mode of conduct which shows us the path of duty. Performance of duty and observance of morality are exchangeable terms. We can attain mastery over our minds and passion by observing morality. Life without morality has no happiness. Our indigenous education system provides also teaches us to observe morality. Real happiness and health come in a proper use of hands and feet. Large cities are full of sin and happiness is not there. We get real happiness and satisfaction in village life.

Ethics is superior to the king’s swords. Our nation has courts lawyers and doctors but they are within bounds and they do not rob people. The common people live independently and follow their agricultural occupation. They enjoy true Home Rule. Indian civilization is a source of excellence. It propagates moral being whereas western civilization immorality. Gandhi ji says that Indian civilization is based on a belief in god while western civilization is godless.
