Is barium a metal or non metal

Dear Student,
The atomic number of barium is 56. It lies in the 6th period and 2nd group of periodic table. Barium has 2 electrons in its outermost shell which tends to lose electrons to gain stability in order to complete its octet. Also, this lies in group of alkaline earth metal which is also a very good reducing agent. Hence, Barium falls under the category of metals.
