Is COCH₃ an electron withdrawing or electron releasing group?

The group COCH₃ acts as an electron withdrawing group and attracts the electron cloud towards it when attached with the aromatic ring. 
Due to the conjugation of the double bond of the ring and the oxygen of the carbonyl group.
