Is Deccan Plateau suitable for crop cultivation?

The soil on the Deccan Traps can be generally expected to be made from decomposed Basalt, which is mineral rich, being mafic lava. Also, breaking down as it has in a moist, tropical environment, there is a good opportunity for organic matter to be added to the mineral content. Other soil materials could well be washed down from the Himalayas, depending on location.
