Is ester acidic or basic in nature??... Will esters turn litmus paper blue or red??

Dear student,
Esters are neither acidic nor basic in nature. They are neutral compounds which do not react with litmus and will not change the color of the litmus.Esters are not acids but they are derived from the acids which are prepared when a reaction occurs between organic acids and alcohol. Thus, They are not able to dissociate in a solvent and do not release H+ or OH- ions.

Esters are not acidic.

An acid is something that released H+ ions when dissolved in water.

All of the hydrogen atoms on an ester, however, are bonded to carbon atoms. These don't dissociate when dissolved in water, because of their electronegativity similarity.

Thus esters cannot be called acidic in nature.
Hope this helps!
