Is Media free in our country ?? Why of is important for a media to be free.

In India media is now more freer because the smaller criticism to the government or its representatives often give rise to UAPA like charges , many journalists had been booked under this act at the pretext of misuse of the freedom of speech.Media is considred to be the fourth pillar but when the same pillar is not allowed to work the results are highly negative.
Media is considered to be the watchdog of democracy. It is very important for the media to be independent because only then can it effectively criticise the government and its policies if it is not towards the welfare of the people. If the government gags the media or there is only state-controlled media, it will act as a mouthpiece of the government and will only blow the government's trumpet. The failings or short fall of the government will never be exposed. With independent media this is difficult to happen. The fundamental right to expression will be completely exercised by the media and hence, the truth will never be hidden. The citizen's right to expression and human rights are also thus protected by an independent media. Hence, independent media is very important for a democracy to flourish.
