meiocytes are special cells which form gametes after the process of meiosis.so, gametes depend upon the meiocytes and the meiocytes are cells so they indirectly depend upon number of chromosomes

Gametes are formed after meiosis and haploid ( n chromosome ) in nature. So, Chromosomes of meiocyte is double of the chromosomes of gamete. Or, Chromosomes of gamete is half the chromosomes of meiocyte. Number of chromosomes of gametes is half the number of chromosomes of meiocytes.
