Integrated Waste Water Treatment carried out by the Friends of the Arcata Marsh has the following important points:

• In the first step, water was treated by conventional methods as follows:

1. sedimentation
2. filtration
3. chlorination.

• Then, the water flows through 6 connected marshes.

•  Certains plants, algae, bacteria and fungi were present in the marshes in order to neutralize, absorb and assimilate the pollutants. This was done to neutralise and assimilate the pollutants. It also helped to remove the heavy metals. 

•  Finally, the marshes also functioned as a sanctuary for a large number of aquatic fauna including aquatic animals, birds and amphibians.
