Iscosmopolitanism something you associate with modernity? Observe andgive examples of ethnocentrism.

Cosmopolitanismmeans valuing other cultures for their difference. A cosmopolitanperception is always ready to adapt other cultures and share its ownculture with others.

Inthis process of sharing, neither foreign culture becomes thelegitimate part of one’s own culture, nor does the indigenousculture lose its base. Hence, it respects every culture.

Cosmopolitanismis associated with modernity, in contemporary period, as it isemerging in most parts of the world. Since modernity has to deal withtime, cosmopolitanism is phenomenon of the modern world.

Ethnocentrism,on the other hand, refers to the standard cultural values that areconsidered more superior to that of cultural values of others. Forexample, the British people were ethnocentric as they regarded theIndian culture as primitive and orthodox. Similarly, the peoplebelonging to cities consider the people of villages inferior tothem. The above examples show that unlike cosmopolitanism, ethnocentrism ranks the culture as superior or inferior.
