  • Methanogens present in the guts of ruminants are responsible for methane (biogas) production from their dung. how?

  • pranita(paid neet 2015)

Methanogens are bacteria that can produce methane. These bacteria reside inside the guts of ruminants (cow, goat, sheep etc.). Without these bacteria ruminants would have failed to digest cellulose. Inside ruminant stomach these bacteria digest cellulose and produce methane which comes out of the body. A cow in an average emits about 450 liters of methane per day.
