'inherit' mean as in Progeny or future cells?

If the alien DNA is incorporated into a single somatic cell it does
not necessarily transfer into its progeny but if it is incorporated
into its germ cell the trait is inherited by it progeny If suppose
the cell into which this alien DNA is introduced is multiplied
several folds to ultimately form a full organism so that the germ
cell also has undergone this particular change then also the
progeny will inherit the trait
