In which region was the cotton crop grown in India in early days ?
In India, cotton is mainly grown in three distinct agro-ecological zones, namely,
- Northern (Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan),
- Central (Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh) and
- Southern zone (Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka)
Of these, Maharashtra is the largest and most traditional producer of cotton.
